You Can Do More Than You Think!

Lately, I have been thinking heavily on the fact that a lot of people have a hard time finding motivation to attack & achieve goals. It’s time to realize… You can do more than you think!

This is my 11th year as a personal trainer. I have had the honor of training hundreds and hundreds of people of all backgrounds.

And to this day, the #1 hardest part of my job is helping people find the inner drive & motivation! The drive & motivation they need to attack their goals even when it seems impossible. It may sound cliche to hear but… Anything really is possible.

I understand why some people have trouble finding and maintaining motivation in their lives. I myself fought hard through a severe depression in my early twenties, a depression that almost claimed my life. During that time it seemed impossible to do almost anything. I felt helpless, hopeless & motionless.

In a time like that, in a mindset like that, it seems impossible that you could ever do something great. That you could ever live the life you always wanted to, that you could achieve all of your goals.

I learned that it is in those dark times, those hard times… The times when you feel like you have nothing left to give… It is in those times that you have to keep putting one foot in front of the other.

By fighting through those difficult times you will gain the tools, insight, wisdom and above else the courage… To attack any other task put in front of you. If you can fight through those times and come out the victor, come out on top! Then you can begin the process of self-actualization, becoming your best self.

My story…

My life has been an interesting one… For a decade I was walking around with a rare muscular skeletal disease called Ehlers Danols Syndrome without being diagnosed. In my early twenties I started having physical problems and they gradually got worse and worse.

A big problem I ran into early in my journey to getting diagnosed was that I went from doctor to doctor trying to find out what was going on, only to be told there was nothing wrong with me. And that I was a hypochondriac…

Because on the outside I looked like a strong, healthy young man. So in the first few years of trying to find out what was wrong, no one really took me serious.

Eventually doctors started taking me a little more serious with every passing year. Evidence that things were going wrong with my body were showing up from finally getting proper testing done… And I was told my life had to change completely.

I was told by “the best doctors in the world”… That I could no longer workout hard, or be a personal trainer again! And that I should pursue a different path. That I would not be able to achieve the goals I had set for myself in my career and personal life.

Most people would have accepted this perspective from these professionals. But I did not and I would not.

I wanted to prove the world wrong but most importantly prove myself right. I was going to do everything I said I would do and more. There was no other option in my mind. To me, it was sink or swim!

I fought my way through that depression with sheer hard work and blood, sweat and tears. I experimented on myself with every possible tool out there. And guess what happened…

I learned that even though I suffer from a terrible disease that causes insane physical ailments, chronic pain & fatigue… I could never be stopped!

What I also learned was that the only person in the world that could stop me from achieving my goals was myself. That my will to live is so strong that you will have to place a shotgun to my chest and blow a hole right through me… To stop me from reaching my goals!

I went on to build myself a prosperous and successful personal training business. Set powerlifting records, run marathons, ultra marathons and obstacle races. And now I am slowly accomplishing my goal of creating the #1 coaching program for men.

Everything that “the best doctors in the world” told me… (besides some of the physical issues I was having) was wrong.

We are insanely more capable of doing things in this life than we are made to believe. And most of the time the limitation is the story we are telling ourselves!

If you are struggling to find and maintain inner drive and motivation to change your life, then I would encourage you to begin telling yourself a different story about who you are.

I have seen many people trying to lose weight who self sabotage themselves over and over again. It’s a sick mental battle we have within our minds. Not feeling worthy of being healthy, not feeling worthy of being good looking, holding onto an image of ourselves because we have lived that way for so long.

For example: I have trained clients who are known as “the eater” or “the fat guy”. And they have lived that way for so long. That when they start to change and see results they sabotage themselves.

Unfortunately, for many, they themselves keep pulling back from becoming what they deserve to be.

What can we do to change our lives?

It is time to start telling yourself a different story…

Who do you want to be? What life do you want to live? How do you want to be viewed by the people around you? What goals do you want to accomplish?

Whatever it is that you want to accomplish, or whoever it is that you want to be… It starts with telling yourself a new story and then BELIEVING it!

You have to literally brainwash yourself into believing.

Grab a pen & a piece of paper… Start writing down a story about who you want to be. Write out in detail how you want to look, how you want to feel, what goals you want to accomplish, how you want to live your life.

A good exercise I have done a few times over the past few years is write down what I want my life to look like… When I’m looking back on it before my last breath on my deathbed.

This exercise really puts a good perspective on things!

Once you have a somewhat decent idea of the story you want to live by… Its time to brainstorm what you need to do to get there!

Do you want to be a thinner, fitter, healthier version of yourself? What does that new version of yourself eat? How do they exercise? How do they act?

Do you want to make more money? How many hours a week does that version of you work? In what field? What new connections need to be made?

Want to find a partner? What does that partner look for in someone? How can you approach that person? What type of relationship do you want to form?

You are reverse engineering your life!

Write out a story, brainstorm how to achieve it… THEN TAKE MASSIVE ACTION!

You can do more than you think!

Get Strong & Stay Strong.
